What to play in February: the best games of the month

The case, when humility is not your color
Game winter in 2020 is not so hot. For example, January and February 2019 gave us Resident Evil 2, Far Cry: New Dawn and Metro Exodus. But this season we will have to wait for March, which will bring us the first major releases. In the meantime, you have to get by with what you have, or make up for lost time.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War
Release date: February 4
Developer: Rebellion
Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
An army of zombie fascists with flamethrowers and circular saws on the orders of the rotten Hitler has captured Europe, and now the Quartet of heroes will have to stop it. Players have access to an extensive Arsenal of outlandish weapons, ingenious devices and many unique abilities that they will use against the legions of undead demonic Kaiser. The main change in the fourth part is the updated Horde mode: now the longer you confront the Horde, the larger the map becomes, forcing players to quickly adapt to changing conditions, holding back the onslaught of enemies from several directions at the same time.

Previous games do not boast a good rating from players and critics: it hardly exceeds 60 points. But maybe this time Rebellion will succeed?

Hunt: Showdown
Release date: February 14
Developer: Crytek
Platforms: PS4
Pvp-horror from the creators of Crysis, successfully released from early access on Steam six months ago, will debut on PlayStation 4 consoles.

Showdown is set in the late 19th century, in a world where myths about monsters from folklore have become a reality. To protect the common people from the terrible fate of becoming a dinner for some swamp creature, evil hunters and mercenaries selflessly take up contracts to destroy monsters. That’s just in this business, competitors are not particularly favored. In Hunt: Showdown, PvP and PvE modes are presented, in which players will use an extensive Arsenal to subdue creepy monsters and other players hunting for valuable trophies. In each match, not only your character’s life is at stake, but also all your equipment, and if you lose, you lose everything except experience.

The game also demonstrates a high level of quality of the visual component of weapon models and environments. Crytek doesn’t do anything else.

Release date: February 14
Developer: Media Molecule
Platforms: PS4
The main sandbox and constructor after Minecraft. Work on the project for the past 7 years is conducted by the English Studio Media Molecule, which previously worked on the pretty platformers LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway. The community describes the project not as a game, but rather as a whole universe of possibilities, which can only be limited by your imagination. The powerful Dreams editor allows you to create individual levels, as well as entire games, movies, and even music.

Initially, Dreams will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 4, but in the future, the developers plan to move the project to other platforms, as well as add support for virtual reality helmets.

Bayonetta and Vanquish Anniversary Bundle
Release date: February 18
Developer: PlatinumGames
Platforms: PS4, XBO
A collection that includes perhaps two of the most popular games PlatinumGames, very warmly received by both the press and the community, as well as earned a lot of awards. The same Vanquish Western journalists at the time and did immodestly called the best Japanese shooter. As for Bayonetta, the game received 40 out of 40 from the Japanese magazine Famitsu. Such a high rating from such a prestigious publication is a sign of the high quality of the project and an indisputable reason for the pride of developers.

Since these are not remakes, you should not expect anything from the collection other than an increased frame rate and stretched diagonals.

Metro Redux
Release date: February 28
Developer: 4A Games
Platforms: NS
More than five years after the release of the Metro Redux compilation, it will appear on the Nintendo Switch. On the one hand — belatedly, on the other-it was difficult to imagine that the game, once melting systems with decent iron, could ever come out on a portable console. Of course, it will not do without a noticeable downgrade, but still.

Metro Redux is a compilation of remasters of two 4A Games-Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. Finally, you can play Metro while sitting in a subway car.

And something else
This month, there will also be re-releases of previously released games on other platforms, which are also worth mentioning. Here they are:

the re-release Yakuza 5 for the PlayStation 4 — February 11;
Darskiders Genesis for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch-February 14;
Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition for the PC and PlayStation 4 on February 14;
Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition for Nintendo Switch — February 18;
Two Point Hospital for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch — February 25.
