Big success for my husband's birthday dinner! I sliced the sprouts instead of using the food processor...

Kim

Great recipe, I've made this many times. But I prefer the sprouts quartered ( or quartered again if they are very large). Less work, better mouth feel, and looks better IMO.

since the price of fresh figs at this time of year when brussels sprouts are available, I went with dried currents which I plumped up ahead of time. And I used Fig balsamic vinegar and selected the smallest brussels sprouts.

Eaten in one sitting and plans for repeats.

This will be on our table every Thanksgiving from now on. My family asked when I will make it again. I easily cut the Brussels sprouts with a knife, so no need for a slicing attachment.

This is a GREAT recipe. We used the dried white figs (Greek), and the smaller amount of bacon. We will be making this again!

Lynne

Great flavor, but to keep bright colors I used white balsamic.

N.

Used dates instead of figs, and pre-prepared bacon bits schmaltz instead of cooking fresh bacon. Absolutely scrumptious. White balsamic is a must to lighten it a bit.

Gretchen Fischer

I didn't have bacon. I used toasted walnuts instead.

Three of my favorite things in one dish! Love it. Happily, I had a bottle of fig balsamic on hand -- made it even better!

Lynne

Delicious!

Susan

I have been making this sprouts dish for years: easy, quick, flavor packed! A favorite lunch. It helps that I have a productive fig tree.

Susie

This was really, really good. I used fresh figs but I really feel that the amount of figs could be doubled. I needed to add more liquid because the sprouts weren’t cooking fast enough. They were very small cut in half.

diane

A nice combo; we've used a similar recipe for years without the figs. Like others here I went with quartering the sprouts (more cuts for the larger ones). We often add chunks of red onion. However, my figs are fresh & disintegrate even when adding them later on. I have a tree of them now so what to do? I will try, as others have, to cut the water a bit. In a way it is no harm as they make a nice sweet/sour sauce with the balsamic.

Great dish for anyone who loves sprouts, figs and bacon. Those are a few of my favorite things!

Jenni

I really like caramelized brussel sprouts. I'm thinking of roasting the sprouts separately and then combine everything at the end.

patti

This is a fabulous recipe. Follow the recipe closely, especially at the end when you want to mix before water evaporation. It’s magic!

This was outstanding. Used fresh figs. Quartered the sprouts and added them, cooking about five minutes before adding the figs. Whole family loved it! Will probably use this for Thanksgiving.

Frank

This was quite tasty. I used apple juice instead of water, but the 1/4 cup proved to be too much because I used fresh figs. Although it made for a really delicious final product, I didn't take into account that liquid would be released rather than absorbed into dried figs. I'd make it again, but add liquid only as needed and wait until sprouts have cooked for 5 to 10 minutes before adding fresh figs to the pan.

Pilar Luna

This was absolutely scrumptious! The combo of bacon, brussels sprouts and figs was heavenly. I added fig balsamic vinegar. It had just the right combo of sweet and savory.

Lorri

OPTIONAL: slice the sprouts in half or quarter, vs. using food processor. since the price of fresh figs at this time of year when brussels sprouts are available, I went with dried currents which I plumped up ahead of time. And I used Fig balsamic vinegar and selected the smallest brussels sprouts.

I should have waited to comment until I made it, however, it was, indeed, delicious. I quartered the sprouts and figs, cooked the sprouts for a few minutes and then added the fresh figs, cooking them just long enough for the sprouts to be tender and the figs to soften. Used 4 oz bacon, and only 1/4 cup of water, as the figs released some of their juices in cooking. It was a little oily, but that’s what carries flavor. I would probably eliminate the olive oil next time. Still, it’s a winner.
