Classroom Cookbook: Cooking No Heat No Kitchen: Recipes With 60+ Assessments (2024)

HELLO! And Thank you for considering our Classroom Cookbook: Cooking No Heat No Kitchen: Recipes With 60+ Assessments.

Please follow us as we work to complete our 20+ Cook’n In Class series!

Below is a description of our product and a few ideas on how we use it. Below that you will find a detailed list of what is contained within this cookbook. It is a FANTASTIC resource, and one that we (my wife and I) use throughout our school year. If you have any questions, any at all, please do not hesitate to drop us an e-mail through TPT. And, as with all of our resources, 100% of what we make goes directly into our classroom (there is more information on that toward the end of this description).

Sooooo.....

This is a highly detailed cookbook that helps beginning chefs learn how to measure and create recipes that will inspire them to want to cook more and more. This cookbook was designed with the idea of a classroom that has no formal kitchen, but would like to incorporate cooking into their curriculum. So, none of the recipes in this cookbook require any heat at all. Just collect the ingredients...AND CREATE!
Along with each recipe you will find different kinds of supporting assessments and activities. As you well know, these are not the end all of what you can do with these recipes. There are sooo many different ideas! Some of the supporting activities that we include are: independent and/or group reading, cloze reading, maze reading, vocabulary analysis, geography, history, multiplication, fraction analysis, ordinal numbers, graphing, and many many more. There are also many other subcategories that you will find as you go along.

Since both my wife and I are Adaptive Education Teachers that teach almost exclusively in the Life Skills setting, we have different methods that we utilize to ensure everyone benefits from these lessons. For instance: when one cup is called for in the recipe, it is a group discussion on how we break that down into smaller measurement amounts. This not only helps with fraction analysis, but it then ensures that everyone in class gets a chance at measuring ingredients. On top of that, by breaking down the measurement equivalents, it shows each student how they can adapt recipes to an individuals needs so as to reduce waste.

An example of how we differentiate lessons to fit the needs of individual students is that we try to make sure that everything is color coded. Throughout this cookbook, you will find examples of measuring cups, teaspoons, tablespoons, etc. They are all color coded per each recipe to help eliminate confusion. If you have purchased the “,” all of the measurement instruments contained in these recipes correspond to the poster set. This makes it extremely easy for those with special requirements to understand and picture the different items needed to make a recipe successful. Before each recipe lesson, we usually have our students complete a gallery walk of the posters with a corresponding assessment sheet. This helps them solidify their content knowledge.

Each of these recipes and their assessments is meant to cover a week's worth of instruction. This means that within this set you have a curriculum that will cover 12 or more weeks of instruction!

I truly hope you have as much fun as we have when we cook in class...especially when you involve the Principal and Assistant Principal.

They have become regulars in our classes!

Thank you so very much for considering this resource! Not only do we appreciate it, but our students do as well.

And please keep in mind that 100% of the profit of this sale goes to our classroom. Both my wife and I are 'outside the box' teachers, and are in the middle of creating a large outside fully interactive outside STEM area, and a 5 aisle working grocery that is curriculum based and covers all content areas. When finished this Consumer Economics course will be open to not only the life skills classes from elementary through high school, but will be extended throughout the general education courses.

Our hope is to instill live work ethics and viable “on the job” training in a controlled environment, that covers all aspects of commercialism, from money handling, to product placement, to customer management skill sets.

So far, the majority of the money has come from our own pockets, but with your purchase, our students will achieve their dreams that much faster.

So, from the bottom of all our hearts, THANK YOU!

And please follow us as we work to complete our 20+ Cook’n In Class series!
