This easy to crochet Lacy V-Stitch Shawl is a great beginner project! You can adjust the width easily to make this a scarf, shawl or even a blanket. Pretty V-Stitches (which are just double crochet stitches and chains) give this project an easy lacy look.

Lacy V-Stitch Shawl Pattern

You can use any yarn and hook to make this project!

  1. With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, chain until you reach the width you’d like for your shawl (scarf, blanket).
  2. Now, check that the number of chains you have can divide evenly by 3.
  3. Chain 4 extra stitches and follow the pattern.
  4. Continue crocheting until your project is the length you would like it to be.
  5. Finish off and weave in your ends.

Supplies

  • Yarn: Elle (Saprotex) Timber DK. 1.76 oz (50 g), 165 yds (150 m). 100% Acrylic Yarn. DK Weight Yarn [3]. Hand washable. Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry. Do not dry clean. Do not iron.
  • Crochet Hook: 5 mm (H)
  • Yardage: 4 balls total: 7.04 oz (200 g), 660 yds (600 m)
  • Yarn Colors: Ancot & Alphenglow (2 each)
  • Yarn Needle, Scissors

  • Approximately 12 inches (30 cm) wide X 47 inches (120 cm) long

Notes:

  • To make this project in any size – chain a multiple of 3 and add 4 extra chains; then continue until you reach your desired length!
  • USE ANY YARN AND HOOK for this project: Chain until you reach the width you’d like your shawl (scarf, blanket) to be, then check that the number of chains you have can divide evenly by 3. Chain 4 extra stitches and follow the remaining instructions. Crochet until your project is the length you would like it to be before finishing off.
  • Skip all stitches not mentioned. Beginning in Row 2, other than the first and last stitches of each row, we will only be working into the ch1sp across.
  • This such a lovely variegated yarn that it makes the easy v stitch just striking!

Lacy V-Stitch Shawl Pattern

A beginner v-stitch shawl crochet pattern.

R1: Ch 64, sk the first 4 chs (counts as 1 dc and 1 sk ch) and make 1 dc in the next ch, ch 1, work 1 more dc in the same ch. *Sk 2 chs, (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in the next ch**. Work from * to ** across to the last 2 chs. Sk the next ch and work 1 dc in the last ch. Turn. [2 dc, 20 sets of (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc)]

R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). *(1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) into the next ch1sp**. Work from * to ** across (skipping all stitches not mentioned) to the last st. 1 dc in the last st. Turn. [2 dc, 20 sets of (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc)]

R3-end: Rep R2 until you reach your desired length.

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Finishing Instructions

  • Weave in any ends.
  • Add a button closure, or clasp (or magnetic clasp).
  • Add a fringe or tassels to the ends.
  • Or wear it with a decorative shawl pin.
