Industrial and multifamily construction is dominating the D-FW building market, LGE Design Build says.That’s according to the firm’s construction delivery outlook for the second quarter of 2024. While there has been a decline in industrial construction since its mid-2022 climax, more than 15.6 million square feet of leased industrial space is slated for delivery soon in North Texas, the report said. When it comes to creating jobs, Texas takes the cake. More than 270,000 positions were added across the state from March 2023 to March 2024, according to the latest employment estimates from the Texas Workforce Commission.At a 2% annual growth rate, it’s the largest increase in nonfarm employment across the country.Texas added 19,100 jobs in March, increasing the seasonally adjusted total to 14,115,700. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.9% for the tenth consecutive month, 0.1 percentage points behind the U.S. rate at 3.8%. By Arcelia Martin#Jobs #Workforce #Texas

Walmart has its eyes on the new residential growth in Texas, its largest state, as it plans to open 150 stores in the U.S. over the next five years.Walmart told The Dallas Morning News Friday that it will begin building four new stores, one each in Celina, Frisco and Melissa in North Texas and one near Houston in Cypress.Celina and Melissa are getting their first Walmart stores. Groundbreakings for all four stores will be this spring and summer. These are Walmart’s first new local stores since 2018 when it opened in Frisco, Prosper and Fort Worth. The fight between the City of Gunter and Fort Worth-based BNSF Railway could be headed to court soon.BNSF sent a letter Thursday morning to Gunter, its mayor and council members, threatening to sue each of them if they attempted to block a preliminary plat application for the company’s 950-acre North Dallas Logistics Center on the east side of State Highway 289 and BNSF’s existing tracks. Where office occupancy typically ranged between 56% and 61% in the Dallas area during March, eclipse day saw a steep drop-off. Occupancy slipped to 40.9% in Dallas on April 8, and quickly rebounded to 66.3% by the next day.Downtown Dallas Inc. reports that the neighborhood has about 135,000 employees, meaning as many as 80,000 people may have been out of the office on eclipse day.
