Preview of Disintegration-a new shooter from the author of Halo

Impressions from the closed beta test of a promising project
Disintegration is definitely one of the most ambitious debuts of this year — it is being developed by one of the key creators of the series of breakthrough shooters Halo. However, it was a long time ago, and as if the new game did not collapse under the weight of their ambitions. Recently, we participated in a closed beta testing of the project-we tell you what happened.

Marcus Leto is a very colorful figure in the gaming industry. Together with him, Bungie has been literally rethinking the first-person shooter genre with its Halo series for years. But in 2010, after sending it to Reach stores, Leto left Bungie for free bread.

While the Studio was already experiencing UPS and downs without him with the destiny dilogy, Leto and his small Studio V1 Interactive pored over Disintegration, a sci-Fi first-person shooter interspersed with real-time strategy. Something similar has already tried to show Urban Assault, released in the early noughties, but nothing good came of it.

In Disintegration, players take on the role of gravicycle pilots, who will not only monitor the constantly changing situation on the battlefield, but also simultaneously command three AI-controlled bums that provide support from the ground. At first, it may seem that having to hold the handle of three more blockheads will become a burden, but this is not quite true. Although bots do not possess outstanding intelligence, they can still effectively use shelters and retreat when they receive enough damage. The player only needs to monitor their health, throwing medical canisters on the battlefield in time, and give orders — to throw a grenade, cover the area with a time-slowing field, or hit the enemy with a volley from a mortar.

If the ground team consists of a standard sniper, an ordinary infantryman, and a heavy attack aircraft, the pilots have a wider choice. There are different types of gravitinos, carrying on Board semi-automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades and EMP emitters. The problem is that gravelly not felt as something formidable on the battlefield. Yes, they are fun to fly and the controls are quite responsive, but in skirmishes with opponents, it seems that they are not armed with futuristic weapons, but with rubber Darts for toy Nerf guns. This is especially evident in the mode with the capture of territory. The point comes under the control of your team only when there are no opponents on it, and given how many hits are needed to bring down an enemy gravicycle, the battle for each zone becomes monotonous and even boring.

So far, the best thing for the V1 Interactive team is the so-called teams-various gangs led by gravicycle pilots. There is a Quartet of samurai, whose equipment is imbued with Eastern aesthetics, another team is more like a bunch of clowns in bright outfits, but most of all we were impressed by the team of role-players who pretend to be medieval knights and prefer to play from the defense. You can immediately see that the Leto team makes big bets on the internal store, because in the game already at the beta stage, you can buy a lot of colorings for pilots and their lackeys, as well as various trinkets and whistles for gravicycles.

Alas, the beta focuses on the multiplayer component, even briefly without mentioning the events of the story campaign. Multiplayer is undoubtedly good, but a completely new project from a hitherto unknown Studio, even with a former Bungie employee at the helm, is unlikely to gather an army of loyal fans without an exciting story.

In an interview, Leto once mentioned that Disintegration was originally planned as a real-time strategy, but at some point the Studio decided to change the concept. It is difficult to judge whether this choice was correct. Whether the game will be able to show itself on the market-we will find out this year.
